Scraps

I was going through some of my scrap pieces of prints papers and clippings in order to find my floor again,  and instead of throwing them away I decided to collage them together.

S'more psychogeography

Believe it or not, this is my (rather embellished) route to Uni and back. It about a 5 minute round trip..

For this piece, we began by making sketches and monoprints of our journeys to Uni and an alternate route back. We then rendered this route using wire and other materials to make it more 3D. Next I drew the negative space from my sculpture several times in different materials and using it as a stencil.
I'm not sure how I feel about the composition of this piece so far. I liked it better in the earlier stages.

Psychogeography

I went on a few 'derives' where I wandered the streets of Epsom in several ways, taking me down roads and lanes I never knew where there. The first derive I did was to follow an outline of a penny draw on a map. The second, our fate was deciphered by flipping a coin at each junction we came to. Heads was always ' go right'. This took us away from Epsom to a rather lovely church graveyard. For my personal derive I decided to take whichever road took my fancy. I was lead by curiosity in the end down a public footpath which I was itching to see where it lead to. Along the way I took rubbings and used my pin hole camera (which I am curious to see the results from).
I really enjoyed this project, I definitely looked at things in a different way as I wasn't rushing to get somewhere. I felt like it made me appreciate more all the minute details that come together to make art in nature. It's also encouraged me to start going on wandering walks to get out of the house more often and explore!

Uncanny installation

There is a hidden dolls head peeking out in the leaves which is quite unnerving when you notice it.  Today we filmed in our spaces. We experimented with lighting/shadows, and projecting images onto the scene as well as sound and movement.

The uncanny

Brief: in groups, create a space with an uncanny feel using the 'homely' items you brought in.

I think so far, it's pretty creepy, and definitely makes me feel uneasy. Our idea was to channel a slightly Victorian vibe where perhaps a girl was murdered or lost in a woods, and the floating dress above the chair is almost like her ghost. Filming in the space tomorrow.

elephant piece progress

Continued from the earlier drawing wall piece.
Directions:
1. put a stripe of one of our favourite colours somewhere on the piece to divide it. (turquoise-y colour)
2. With a colour you dislike (yellowy brown) , block in a rectangle of the piece you don't like.
3. Add an image of an artists work you liked, and one you disliked and write why. I chose Elizabeth Neels as a like and a Damien Hirsts Dark rainbow as dislike.
4. With another colour you like, block out bits you don't like. (orange)

Monoprinting

Experimenting with mark making. Using mono printing as a means of transferring text onto my wall piece.

First week on the Fine Art pathway.
We have begun these large wall pieces where two images from our research is transfered onto the paper. I chose a skull and my elephant human. Over the top of that we had to draw a swinging object... which was hard...

First Post

This is a blog for my work in the Fine Art pathway at Epsoms Foundation Course. Here are a few sketches I did for the Two week brief. Mostly it was research though. I chose the words 'Hybrid' and 'Transformation' which resulted in research leading to genetic engineering, transhumanism, climate change, evolution, mythological creatures, comic mutants and bionic humans.

I need a scanner..
